WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DEATH?

Many people think of death as ceasing to exist but the Bible describes it as a separation from the source of life, God.

Because of sin, all of us are born physically alive but spiritually dead. This means we're born disconnected, having no relationship with God. (Genesis 2:16-17)

Isaiah 59:2

But your iniquities (sin) have made a separation between you and your God and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

The Bible teaches that we are a spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body.

  • Spirit: The God-Conscious part of us

  • Soul: The Self-Conscious part of us (our mind, will and emotions)

  • Body: The World-Conscious part of us

Q: Have you ever felt separated from God?

God doesn’t want to be separated from us; He wants a relationship with us! In fact, the Bible says “His kindness leads us to repentance” and that “He’s placed eternity in our hearts.” (Romans 2:4, Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Out of His love for us, He uses circumstances, family, friends and even strangers to cause us to consider our story in light of eternity and the Gospel story.
